Bruins Trading Deadline/Report Card
Dennis Seidenberg, who the Bruins acquired in a trade today, is good solid defensemen (on the German Olympic team) but defense is not the Bruins issue. They are the lowest in the NHL in scoring (even lower than the Oilers!) and if the Bruins want to make a serious run in the playoffs the offensive production that they currently have will not do, obviously! So, did the trade make the Bruins worse? No, but it sure didn’t help their offense. The Bruins are not doing great but we should give Peter Chiarelli credit for not making a trade just for the sake of trading. Making a trade shows Chiarelli and the Bruins organization are not throwing in the towel yet!! Despite having an historic losing streak in January the Bruins are still in the eighth place. The question is how is this possible? The reason is because the Eastern Conference is awful despite the Pengiuns, Capitols, and Devils.
So for their report card so far they get a C. Not an F, despite the lack of scoring, but not an A because they are in eighth place and had the losing streak. If the Bruins are going to compete for the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs they need to pick up the scoring. They will also need to win key games, such as divisional games and the two games with the New Jersey Devils, who are a potential playoff opponent. I don’t believe the Bruins will go deep in the playoffs, but they will not even make the playoffs if they do not step up the OFFENSE!!! The trade today, did nothing to help their biggest need.
